Infrastructure and the Historic Tramway At the time of the panchayat’s inception, the only prominent transport route was the Chalakudy-Vellikulangara road, which was merely a mud road. The first governing body undertook massive road formation projects, laying the foundation for almost all the major roads seen today. Notably, a historic forest railway system known as the "Tramway" once passed through Kodassery, extending all the way to Parambikulam. Established during the reign of the Kings of Cochin, this tramway was used to transport timber and firewood from the eastern hills to Chalakudy and was considered the source of the region's prosperity and fame.
